What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

Is Harmonia FERPA Compliant?

Yes! Harmonia is FERPA Complient.

Harmonia does not receive any personal information from the educational institution. Account registration is performed by individual users. During the registration process, users have an opportunity to review our privacy policy and terms of service.

Harmonia stores as little user personal information as possible. It does not disclose any personal information of any user to any third party organization/person. Users' personal information stored on the Harmonia server includes first name, last name, email address, and preferred language.

Harmonia does not store any sensitive user information such as credit card number, address, or phone number.

Harmonia only stores academic records that are submitted directly through the Harmonia app. It does not disclose users' academic records to anyone besides the instructors and the teaching assistants of the courses.

Harmonia's server is set to run on a high-security setting. The possibility of a data breach is extremely low. Internet traffic to the Harmonia server is encrypted through an SSL connection to protect sensitive information.
